“But even though time may have buried the documentary evidence of those achievements, their beneficent influence can be felt as a force which has shaped the lives of successive generations, right up to our own. To this great, immense feminine “tradition” humanity owes a debt which can never be repaid.”

-John Paul II, Letter to Women

About

The Feminine Genius is a project meant to shine a spotlight on the lives and impact of women throughout history–especially those who do not make it into the history books. Currently, the project focuses on American history and culture but is not limited to it. The work is based on the belief that, as a history professor once told the creator of Wonder Woman (although it’s doubtful if he understood), “Women are human too.” And no history is complete without considering what half the human race was doing!

Here you will find women’s experiences treated with equal value and presented as much as possible in their own words; and alongside them, the occasional think piece on feminist theory throughout history and its intersections with pop culture. (I can’t help it! It’s fun!)
